The world of navigation depends more and more on technology. This is the idea behind the UPC – Barcelona World Race award. It aims to find new projects that help improve navigation and sustainability. Several teams of students from UPC have entered the competition.
Two of the three finalist teams for this award have FIB members. On the one hand, two FIB students have developed a free route calculation software that can help beginners with navigating. On the other hand, two Industrial Engineering students and one FIB student enrolled in the Masters in Computer Architecture have developed a new system capable of converting energy obtained from waves and wind into a complementary energy source for vessels.
This last project, named Boat Kers (Boat Kinetic Energy Recovery System) has won the first edition of the award.
